Microsoft Research Hopes $700K Award Will Lead to New Software for GWA Studies Among six areas slated for funding in 2008 is a program to develop improved data-analysis tools for genome-wide association studies. Microsoft Research intends to award a total of $700,000 to several recipients under this program, which is designed to fund higher-risk projects that funding agencies like the National Institutes of Health or the National Science Foundation would typically avoid.

MWG Bets That Improved Software Will Give It Edge In Competitive Gene-Synthesis Market This week, MWG Biotech of Ebersberg, Germany, announced that it has developed a new software program called GENEius for optimizing synthetic genes. The software, developed in collaboration with partner Eurofins Medigenomix, is primarily for internal use as part of MWGs gene-synthesis service, but a version with limited features, called GENEius light is available for public use.
