Open Source Tools Mature at ISMB, While
Commercial Vendors Explore Transparency

At last week’s Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology conference in Toronto, several observers described open source bioinformatics development as a maturing field while commercial vendors displayed an increasing willingness to portray their tools as “open” — if not always open source.
